Search Franklin County Released Inmates

Search for Franklin County released inmates by matching the last custodian with the record that survives the custody change. Franklin County released inmates may appear in a Sheriff release record, a court order, the state corrections search, or a federal locator, depending on where the person went. A missing name from a live jail view proves only that the display changed. This Franklin County released inmate search explains how to find the physical exit, its legal basis, and any supervision or transfer that followed without confusing release with a change of custodian.

Franklin County Released Inmate Records

A release record is an operational custody record, not simply a court judgment. Franklin County Jail staff may record the exact departure, release authority, and destination. The Circuit Clerk holds the filed order that explains bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, or commitment. Those documents answer related but distinct questions.

A person can leave the Benton jail by community release, transfer to IDOC, transfer to another county, federal transport, or an ICE handoff. Only a verified community exit should be called release to the community. All outcomes can remove a name from a current display.

What Franklin County Release Records Show

Franklin County does not publish a complete web field inventory, so request the fields needed for the specific booking. These are request targets, not a claim that the jail uses every label exactly as written.

FieldWhat it shows
Name, aliases, and identifying dataHelps separate people with similar names.
Booking number and booking timeIdentifies the custody episode being researched.
Arresting or committing agencyShows who placed the person in custody.
Charge and case numberConnects the jail event with the court file.
Release date and timeRecords the operational end of that jail custody episode.
Release type or authorityExplains bond, order, time served, or another basis.
Destination or receiving agencyDistinguishes community release from transfer.
Booking photographLinks an existing image to the specified booking, if maintained and releasable.

A court order may be entered hours before staff complete holds, identity checks, paperwork, property, and transport. Conversely, a docket can show bond posted without the physical exit time. Obtain both records when timing or destination matters.

Request a Franklin County Release Record

The county Transparency page routes Sheriff FOIA requests to Franklin County Jail, 403 E. Main, Benton, IL 62812, and provides the county form. Send jail release records and booking-photo requests to the Sheriff. Send filed court orders to the Circuit Clerk.

  1. Identify the person and a narrow booking date range. Add a booking or case number if known.
  2. Use the Franklin County Transparency page and current FOIA form.
  3. Ask for the existing booking/release record, release date and time, disposition or authority, transfer destination, and associated case number.
  4. Request electronic copies and ask the agency to redact exempt material while releasing the remainder.
  5. Answer the form’s purpose question accurately and request a fee estimate before costs are incurred.

Under 5 ILCS 140/3, a public body generally responds to a noncommercial request within five business days, subject to a permitted extension and other procedures. A response may seek clarification, invoke an extension, state fees, produce records, or cite exemptions. It does not guarantee delivery of every field on the fifth day.

The first 50 black-and-white letter or legal pages are generally free under Illinois FOIA, with limited charges afterward. Certification and special formats can differ. The Sheriff’s civil fee schedule is not automatically the FOIA copy schedule.

Find a Franklin County Released Inmate

Start at the person’s last known custodian and move only when a record shows a transfer. This prevents a county-jail booking from being mistaken for an IDOC or federal episode.

  1. Check the official Sheriff page and the Franklin County Illinois Sheriff app, but treat absence from current information cautiously.
  2. Call the jail at 618-438-4841 for a narrow current-status question.
  3. Search DocketVision by name, then obtain the actual order from the Circuit Clerk.
  4. Search Illinois VINELink for a reported custody event and verify its wording with the custodian.
  5. If the jail or court shows IDOC commitment, switch to the state search and use the IDOC number.
  6. For a documented federal or immigration path, use BOP, the federal docket or USMS, or ICE ODLS as appropriate.
  7. For an older or unclear event, request the Sheriff’s historical booking/release record.
Why the name disappeared: A live roster describes current custody. A released or transferred person usually drops off, so the release record becomes the better source.

Identity and event must both match. Pair a name with a date of birth, booking number, IDOC number, federal register number, or case number. One person can have several bookings and sentences, and the newest online status may concern a different episode.

IDOC Search for Franklin County Released Inmates

The Illinois Department of Corrections calls its portal the Individual in Custody Search, yet some records remain available after prison release. Search by IDOC number when possible, compare the identifiers, and read the entire detail record.

IDOC is appropriate after state commitment, not for every short Franklin County jail booking.

A “PAROLE” status can mean institutional release with continuing supervision. A projected discharge date is not necessarily the prison exit date. The Franklin County projected release date guide explains the sentence-credit calculation and date labels.

Franklin County DocketVision After Release

Franklin County offers its own DocketVision kiosk. The visible search is name-based and calendar-oriented, showing items such as litigant, judge, room, and time. It is useful for locating a setting, but it is not a complete chronology or the Sheriff’s release log.

Use the Franklin County DocketVision search, then ask the Circuit Clerk for the filed bond or pretrial release order, plea, dismissal, judgment, sentence, jail credit, probation term, IDOC commitment, warrant, or discharge entry.

The kiosk can preserve the court trail after a name leaves jail information, while the Sheriff owns the actual exit timestamp.

If docket shorthand is unclear, request the signed order. A legal authorization and a physical release are separate events, and an unresolved hold can prevent the expected exit.

Verify Franklin County Releases With Three Sources

Franklin County agencies are close in Benton but hold sharply different records. The Sheriff documents the actual jail exit. The Circuit Clerk preserves the court authority. Probation handles a local supervision sentence, while IDOC and PRB cover state custody and supervision. VINE reports participating-agency notifications.

A strong answer matches three parts: the custodian event, the legal authority, and the supervision or receiving destination. If the Sheriff says transfer, follow the named agency. If the court says release but the jail record shows another hold, the later custody event controls the physical outcome.

Correct a Franklin County Release Record

Send an error to the custodian that created the field. A jail release timestamp or destination issue goes to the Sheriff’s records and FOIA channel. A docket or order error belongs with the Circuit Clerk and court. A person seeking their own statewide criminal-history access or correction uses ISP Access and Review.

Identify the exact booking, case, or IDOC episode, quote the disputed field, and preserve the date on which it was viewed. A search engine or copied page cannot amend an agency record. For IDOC status or sentence data, include the IDOC number and contact the state records route.

If FOIA material is denied or redacted, retain the written response and cited exemption. The Illinois Attorney General Public Access Counselor review process described in the denial is the official review channel. Do not assume an exemption is invalid without the relevant facts.

Franklin County Release Records After Sealing

Release alone does not erase a record. Illinois expungement and sealing eligibility is case-specific under 20 ILCS 2630/5.2. Outcome, offense, sentence, and waiting period all affect eligibility. Expungement and sealing also have different legal effects.

The Illinois Courts approved forms provide the statewide process, and Franklin County filings go through the Circuit Clerk. A sealed or expunged case can explain why an older trail is no longer public. Protected material should not be reconstructed from caches or commercial reposts.

Agency retention and public web display are also different. Franklin County publishes no duration for a former detainee’s appearance in an app or roster. An item can vanish from public view while the agency still retains a record subject to law and exemptions.

Franklin County Release Handoffs to Care

A state commission report documents Franklin County Jail’s partnership with Take Action Today beginning in August 2022. It describes a full-time state-certified peer recovery specialist, a 30-day curriculum, and needs assessment for participating detainees.

The report also describes possible direct release handoffs to appropriate care or another safe setting and post-release follow-up. This is a documented local reentry route, but it does not establish that every person receives the service or that a treatment placement is a community release. Confirm the destination and current program availability.

A care handoff may coexist with probation, parole, or other conditions. The court or IDOC record remains the source for supervision, while the Sheriff record identifies the physical release or transfer.

Federal Transfers From Franklin County Jail

IDOC’s 2022 jail inspection states that Franklin County Jail houses U.S. Marshals prisoners under contract and may house people for area counties. A departure from the Benton jail can therefore be federal transport or another-county transfer instead of community release.

Ask for the destination or receiving-agency field. For a federal pretrial prisoner who has not entered BOP, the relevant federal court and USMS district are more useful than an empty BOP result. BOP has no comprehensive record for every person in federal legal custody before designation.

For a former BOP prisoner, the BOP Inmate Locator often shows “Released” and a date for records from 1982 onward.

A BOP release ends the BOP custody episode shown, but it does not resolve federal supervision, another warrant, or immigration custody.

Closed Franklin County Juvenile Facility

The Second Judicial Circuit announced that the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center closed effective December 31, 2023. The county facilities page now labels the former center at 409 E. Washington as currently closed.

It is historical facility context, not an active released-inmate search. Adult rosters, IDOC adult tools, and public booking-photo workflows must not be used as substitutes for confidential juvenile records. A parent, guardian, attorney, court, or other authorized party should use the juvenile court and lawful custodian route.

The Franklin County facilities page provides the current county status.

Franklin County Pretrial Release Proof

The county facilities page places the State of Illinois Office of Pre-Trial Services at the Government Annex, 901 Public Square in Benton. Under Illinois’s statewide pretrial system, the legal proof for a pretrial exit is the court’s detention or release order together with the Sheriff’s physical release record.

Do not use a generic cash-bond schedule to infer that someone left. A court order can authorize release, yet staff must still process holds, identity, paperwork, and other requirements. The jail timestamp supplies the operational event.

If probation follows a sentence, that is a different local supervision path. If the court commits the person to IDOC, the next event is a transfer to state custody. The case order identifies which route applies.

The facility list includes the local jail, one closed historical center, and three broader custody systems that can receive or track Franklin County cases. Use each page only for its actual jurisdiction.

No adult IDOC or BOP prison was identified in Franklin County. Geographic proximity should never replace a verified custody destination.
